Please do not call the Court expecting to speak with a judge about any case. The Court is only allowed to consider evidence and arguments made in the courtroom and in documents properly filed by actual parties in the case as authorized by law and the Rules of Court. The Court cannot ethically read or consider any other evidence or arguments about the case. Effective January 2025, all UMC hearings scheduled on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays shall be in person or via Zoom. In an effort to increase opportunities for attorneys to participate in in-person proceedings, all UMC hearings scheduled on Thursdays shall be IN PERSON ONLY. No exceptions will be made. If you or opposing counsel are unable to attend in person, then you must schedule your UMC hearing on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. For UMC on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday, parties are always welcome to attend in-person in Courtroom 16-150. UMC (EXCEPT THURSDAYS), CMCs, AND CALENDAR CALLS ARE CONDUCTED VIA ZOOM CONFERENCE. MOTIONS - LIMITATIONS: (a) In a motion or other application for an order, the movant shall include a concise statement of the relief requested, a statement of the basis for the request and citation to legal authority in support of the request. (b) Each party opposing a motion or application may file a response that includes citation to legal authority in opposition to the request. Responses MUST be uploaded to CMS within 5 business days of the hearing. (c) Please do not submit correspondence to the Judge’s chambers. Any request MUST be filed as a motion and set for hearing. (d) For more information, please review Local Rule 10A. 2. MOTIONS - GENERALLY: (a) Motions for Rehearing/Reconsideration. Please see Adm. Order No. AO 2022-5-GEN Motions may NOT be set for hearing unless authorized by the Court. The clerk’s office does not serve a copy of the motion to the judge or judge’s chambers. An electronic copy of the motion with a cover letter and proposed order, must be submitted to be considered. In many cases, a response may be required. (b) Motions to Continue Trial. Pursuant to the Uniform Pretrial Order, continuances will only be considered for good cause on motion prior to calendar call. Any requests for continuances (including agreed motions) must be placed on UMC at least five(5) days prior to calendar call. Client consent must also be filed in advance of the scheduled hearing. Also, please comply with Fla. R. Civ. P. 1.460 and Fla. R. Jud. Adm. 2.545 (e) regarding party consent. If the case is continued the parties will be notified of the new calendar call date.
