THE RESCUE DEVICE — NRCP 56(d)

When summary judgment lands before the discovery you need exists, the rule's own device: a nonmovant who shows by affidavit or declaration that, for specified reasons, it "cannot present facts essential to justify its opposition" may obtain deferral, denial, or time for discovery. The showing must SPECIFY the reasons and name the facts — a bare plea for time is not the device.

The enforcement trace (post-judgment)

Execution on the writ

The writ of execution issues within the statute's own time limits — the ladder's first rung, with the exemption law running debtor-protective and technical alongside.

NRS 21.010

The six-year life + the 90-day renewal window

A Nevada judgment lives six years and renews through the affidavit filed in the 90-day window before expiration — the deadline engine computes the window; missing it is fatal to the lien's continuity.

NRS 17.214

Interest at prime-plus-two

Judgment interest runs at the prime rate at Nevada's largest bank (set each January 1 and July 1) plus 2% — a statutory formula, never a guess.

The stay side

An unsuperseded judgment is enforceable during appeal — NRAP 8 sends the stay motion to the district court FIRST, then the appellate court. The attachment machinery (NRS 31.010) covers the pre-judgment side.
